Research Projects:
The primary goal of our projects is to establish software technologies for building safe and secure Internet services. Recent technology trend has made the hardware cost of computing systems utterly cheap and unbelievably efficient, and shifted the dominant cost of ownership from hardware to management. This trend has changed the focus of systems software research; the focus is on manageability rather than performance. In particular, our research interest is in software architecture that eliminates or reduces the total cost of ownership (TCO) of large-scale enterprise Internet servers. In the following projects, we are exploring novel ideas that lead to maintenance-free safe and secure Internet servers.
-
Secure Platform Project:
This project encompasses research on secure operating systems, firewalls, and network intrusion detection/prevention systems.
-
Software platform for dependable, manageable, high performance Internet services:
Growing needs of large-scale, mission-critical Internet services are demanding dependable computing systems. he goal of this project is to develop the software technology that turns a collection of cheap Linux boxes into high quality computing bases. Let's drive out expensive servers.
-
Applying advanced technologies of programming languages to real system software programming:
Inspite of the rapid progress of compilation techniques, system software is still developed by old-fashioned programming styles. This project aims to change the way of system programming. Developed are the RMI system, +10 times faster than traditional ones, that exploits dynamic specialization, and highly productive domain-specific languages for programming kernel schedulers and for developing application-level protocols.
